How do you add more ways to play without making things complicated?

PROJECT OVERVIEW

We teamed up with our friends at Moonbug Entertainment to give the classic game a CoComelon makeover.

The goal was to bring JJ and his friends into the familiar world of the game while creating a fresh experience for a new generation of young players. The challenge was to preserve the simple, approachable fun families already knew while adding a little more CoComelon personality—and a few new ways to play.

The result was a playful new edition that paired a beloved classic with the colorful world of CoComelon, giving little players more ways to sing, play, and climb their way to the finish.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

The challenge was to bring the colorful, playful world of CoComelon into a familiar game experience without losing the simple gameplay that made the original so approachable for young players and families.

We also wanted to create more opportunities for interaction and replayability by introducing new gameplay modes. Each addition needed to feel natural within the existing game while giving players a fresh reason to come back and play again.

The goal was to create an experience that felt unmistakably CoComelon while still delivering the easy-to-learn, family-friendly fun of a classic.

MY ROLE

Creative Leadership & Game Development: Led the creative development of the CoComelon edition, helping shape the overall player experience and ensuring the new gameplay, storytelling, and creative elements worked together cohesively.

Writing & Game Rules: Led the development and refinement of game rules, translating gameplay mechanics into clear, engaging instructions that were easy for young players and families to understand.

Packaging Copy: Developed and updated packaging copy, ensuring the messaging clearly communicated the game experience while maintaining the playful CoComelon voice.

Gameplay Naming: Created the names for the two new gameplay modes—“Color Play” and “Classic Play”—giving each mode a clear, kid-friendly identity.

Play Testing & Creative Refinement: Participated in play tests to evaluate the new gameplay modes, identify opportunities for improvement, and refine the experience before final production.

Final Art Reviews & QA: Led final creative reviews of artwork and game materials, checking the execution against the intended creative direction and ensuring the final product was polished and cohesive.

Legal & Production Copy: Reviewed and incorporated required legal lines and production copy, ensuring all final materials were accurate and complete.
