How do you give Operation a dose of matching-game fun?

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Hasbro set out to bring the excitement of Operation into a fresh new game experience with Operation X-Ray Matchup, combining the familiar fun of the classic Operation brand with a new matching-game format.

The goal was to create a playful, kid-friendly experience that introduced a new way to interact with the Operation brand while keeping the humor, personality, and recognizable world that players expect.

The result was a new Operation game experience that gave young players another way to match, play, and have a little fun with everyone’s favorite bumbling doctor.

DESIGN CHALLENGE

The challenge was to translate the humor and personality of the classic Operation brand into a new, kid-friendly matching experience. The game needed to feel unmistakably Operation while making the matching gameplay simple, intuitive, and engaging for young players.

We also needed to find the right balance between the familiar world of Operation and the mechanics of a matching game. The characters, ailments, artwork, packaging, and gameplay all needed to work together as one cohesive experience.

The goal was to create a fresh way to play Operation while keeping the humor, personality, and playful spirit that make the brand so memorable.
